More eGO shenanigans...
So, to add to the excitement of the ongoing eGO situation, I give you the latest chapter:
Theft!
I was dropping Joy off at her place tonight, only to discover that her eGO had been stolen. Argh. More on the story as it develops...

Dude, that sucks!
Any new info?

Not much. The insurance folks are going to try to assess it's current market value. That ought to be interesting. Not much of a market of used electric scooters, since most of them wear out, I think. We'll see how that goes.
But, no, nothing new on the bike. Hey, speaking of which - if it does turn up, can we beg help via your truck? If the moped gets found someplace, chances are good that it'll be run-down (batteries, or just abuse) and won't be rideable.

Sure, just let me know... I have a few ramps and tie downs... and lots of practice loading bikes in and out of my truck.
I hope it turns up!

Be aware that there is a chain drive mod DVD offered on ebay for the ego scooter. Also, look for the 15-minute fast battery charge for ebikes and scooters on ebay.

I'm looking into an eGo 2LX. Did she get her cycle back? and if you had to do it over again would you buy an eGo? Looks like there could be some reliability issues.

No, the eGO was never found. Her insurance eventually settled the claim.
As for whether I'd ever buy an eGO again... no. After extensively repairing mine, and a lot of pseudo-help from one of their techs, mine finally failed entirely. I've since bought a gas scooter while I'm waiting for the electric scooter market to mature a bit more. My girlfriend is planning to buy a German model that's just beginning to be imported to the US... I'm not in a hurry to find out about another new product that might have problems. I'm very much looking forward to having the dealer do the first service on my gas scooter in a few weeks, since I won't have to.
eGO may have improved their customer handling, and/or reliablity. For a heavier-than-their-spec-weight individual, who rode the bike a lot, it was not the right device. Plus, at least as an early customer, they took quite a while to start offering adequate customer support, and have been unresponsive lately about how to properly dispose of my now non-working device.

Thanks for your blog and your quick response. If it wasn't for you and a few others out there, I probably would have bought an eGO and as there is no support here in Bend, OR, it would have most likely been a big mistake. Am though curious about which German bike your gfriend is looking into.

Glad to help. In fairness, I should update that after replying to your note earlier, I re-sent my last message requesting how to dispose of my broken eGO, and was given a quick, polite, helpful response.
That doesn't change my opinion, just want to be fair.
Anyway, my girlfriend is on the waiting list for the e-max. The US importer has details here and the manufacturer's site is here. The shipment date keeps slipping, but, as this is just the first time they'll ever be available in the US, there are lots of reasonable explanations for the problem. The specs on it do look impressive... and I'm kind of hoping I'm not too jealous, since my gas scooter isn't that old yet.
Being new to the country, and only available through one company, stateside, does raise some concerns. But, it also appears to be a pretty quality bike, so perhaps none of those concerns will amount to anything.
